Another Travelogue

Before I post tomorrow's card introducing the new Cuttlebug Stars folder, I wanted to take a moment and share a few Washington, D.C. photos that I took last week. I didn't post the most often seen tourist shots, perhaps, but maybe ones you haven't seen yet. I hope you enjoy them.

Different kinds of photos tomorrow.

This is the Korean War memorial. The images on the wall are just like ghosts looking at you. The faces of the patrol were mature men, where the VietNam soldiers appeared so often to be boys. Very, very powerful.
This is the 9/11 Memorial on the grounds of the Pentagon. I wasn't even aware that there is a memorial there, and how poignant it is. There are 184 benches, each with running water beneath them. The names of the victims are engraved in the end of the bench, and also on a plaque in the water. They are lined in rows according to the year of their birth. The profound gut punch in this is the row after row from 1939 through 1979, and then there is a gap....and then three separate benches...one for each of the little ones that perished on the plane. The benches are placed facing toward or away from the building depending on whether the vicitm was stationed at the Pentagon or not. If you are ever in the D.C. area, it is one stop to be sure to make. It is right below the new Air Force Memorial that stands on the hill overlooking the site. My brother-in-law was standing right there just moments after the plane hit the building that fateful day........

This is my Granddaughter on the grounds of the LDS Temple in Washington, D.C. This is a very special place to our family, and we go there whenever we have the opportunity. It was closed when we got there that night, but even a picture is something special.....isn't it gorgeous??

More tomorrow! I hope you've been enjoying our "chick trip".....I've tried not to lock the doors, and turn on the slide projector with 10,000 slides of our summer vacation!!!!
I hope you are having a good summer :o)

Happy Birthday, Mom

It is such fun to celebrate a family birthday, and especially when it's someone as special as your Mom. Today is Mom's Diamond Jublilee Birthday, and she loves pastel colors, so this is the card I made for her. I used the Tri-Fold Design that you can find here...
I'm off to spend a couple of days with her.
I hope you have a great day, too!
Happy crafting!

I'm Home!

It was a WONDERFUL trip! Three weeks of family, friends and FUN....the only thing missing was email and computer access, therefore, YOU!

Ummmmm, you WEREN'T in there, were you?????!!!!!

Thank goodness for Tori, who could pack ANYTHING!!! We put three people, enough food for a small army, all of our craft supplies, books to start a fledgling library, and bargains, bargains, bargains into my little car!!! You couldn't have put a grain of sand in there after she was finished with her magic! Yeah, Tori! (And we were SO blessed NOT to have a flat tire!!)

This was Leilani's "throne" on the way home...

She only had to sit there for 1,200 miles! She had everything organized right at her finger tips. It was great!

I will tell you more as time goes by...

Here was the first important part of the trip.....Mr. and Mrs. Bret Jutras!!! You've seen their cards, now you see the bride and my very proud nephew.

Enough of the travelogue for today....I'll share more later.
I hear Studio Bee buzzing for me.....

Another little Buzzing from Studio Bee

As I have been setting things up for teaching and working more efficiently, I have been looking at all sorts of ways to organize my stash of paper, stamps, images, pens, and RIBBONS....well, this is a FUN, very simple, and extremely inexpensive way to take care of those colorful little necessities that we love so much....

Well,.....maybe I do have more of an issue with this than most people....... anyway......

This is my version of the high-dollar units that are advertised some places. Oh, so simple, and with a cafe' rod, I can just add as many as I need (which will be a LOT!!!)

As you can see, you can add quite a few paper clips (ribbon clips) on each ring, making it easy to organize colors. I decided to use the ROY G. BIV rainbow style, with black on one end, and brown on the other. So far this is working well. I put white in the center, as it helps keep it nice and light.

I still have a lot of ribbons to add, but there is plenty of room left. I'm sorry it was dark outside, so you didn't get to appreciate how pretty the colors are with the sun shining through, even though there is an awning outside to protect them from the direct sun. I can push them aside if I want to have the open window feeling.

I have had my first classes here now, and this works really well. The ribbons are easy to see. It is easy to lay one across the paper to check the color and pattern, or keep trying several to find just the right ribbon, without having to search through drawers, racks, jars, or whatever method might not be working for you!

I hope you find this to be helpful, and I'll be back soon with another tip from Studio Bee.

Happy Scrapping.....

Be Inspired #34

Today's Cuttlebug Challenge is to use BasicGray Papers, and I have this pretty piece called Two Scoops that was just right for a light hearted message from a little Imaginesce Birdie.

I stamped the image on the designer paper first, then onto the yellow cardstock, which I colored with Copics, and finally onto soft pink vellum. I ran the vellum through the cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots folder, and then used Copics to highlight the beak and the flower. Thick glue dots gave it all just enough dimension to make it stand out. The flowers are primas. The border punch is Fiskars, and the lettering was hand written this time.
I hope you have some BasicGray papers to do something fun with, and post it to the Cuttlebug Challenge! There are always great things happening over there. Check out the other designers blogs, too!!!
Happy Scrapping!
I'll be buzzing back tomorrow with a look at my ribbons in Studio Bee....
